1,000 Families Project: Monica, Urs and Sofia

This is a picture of my family. My husband is called Urs. He is from Switzerland and he is a carpenter, dive instructor and musician. My name is Mónica. I am from Honduras and I am a mother, a biologist and dive master. The wonderfully smiling baby is our daughter Sofía Amelie, a toddler full of energy, love and passion. We live in the Caribbean in an island called Utila.

In our home we speak three languages: Spanish, English and Swiss German; this multicultural trade applies to traditions, to the kitchen and to our values. It doesn’t get boring that easily around here.

Parenting has been the beginning of a better chapter in our lives. Personally, it has opened my brain and heart to so many wonderful and powerful emotions; it has helped me overcome my past and brought me to a new life based on unconditional love. I couldn’t have been anymore lucky to have found this wonderful man to be my friend, my lover and partner in parenting.

Our daughter is now talking, singing and running and most importantly, she is discovering herself and the world. Life is good, specially when the beach is your playground.
