Thanks so much for coming by to check out Episode 121 of The New Family Podcast where we examine how not to lose our cool with our kids.
When we become parents, it takes many of us by surprise just how much our kids push our buttons. Yes, we’d take a bullet for them 10 times over, but we also want to throttle them sometimes. That’s why I’m so pleased to be joined on the show today by Dr. Vanessa LaPointe, a registered psychologist, mother of two and the author of Discipline Without Damage: How To Get Kids To Behave Without Messing Them Up. Dr. LaPointe talks to us about how we can keep it together in those tough moments, and gives us tools for managing through our kids’ various ages and stages.
Here are some great resources related to my discussion with Dr. LaPoint.

Dr. LaPointe’s Favourite Parenting Advice
“The best piece of parenting advice that I’ve ever received came in the form of a couple of very short words which was to be gentle with yourself. I think as somebody in a helping profession, we tend to judge ourselves way too harshly, partly because we have way too much knowledge for our own good and then we walk this walk and we’re exactly the same as every other parent, who is losing their ever-lovin’ mind on a regular basis because it all became too much, too quickly and we don’t know how to find our way through. So I would say, bottom line, the best advice I’ve ever been given is just to be gentle with yourself.”
