Thanks so much for coming by to check out Episode 157 of The New Family Podcast where we talk about the changing perceptions about single motherhood.
For this episode I’m joined by my colleague and friend, Emma Johnson, who is the author of a brand new book called The Kickass Single Mom: Be Financially Independent, Discover Your Sexiest You, and Raise Fabulous, Happy Children. We first heard from Emma way back on Episode 21 when she came on to share the ideas on her wildly popular website wealthysinglemommy.com. That’s when she and I began our conversation about the ideas around single motherhood that hold so many people back. Her blog and book are focussed on changing assumptions about what single moms can achieve, and about living a fulfilling and abundant life as an unmarried mother.

What people will get out of reading The Kickass Single Mom
“Obviously I want women to read it and see what they are capable of. It’s my story, I interview lots of other really cool women. It really is a call to action – for all of us to be raising the vibrations and the image of, not only of single moms but of women. I often say that our job is to be loudmouths – we are out in the media, we’re being provocative, this is our careers and our passions. This is our role in this path to activism. And that is not for everybody, that is not everybody’s way. But simply by challenging yourself and living your own best life – that is activism, because people are watching you. Your kids are watching you, and that informs what kind of adults they will grow up to be. Your neighbours are watching you and that is challenging their own assumptions about what they can be.”
